debian/copyright file is an important piece of Debian package, however, not all of them are accurate, hard to write it down and follow to upstream update. To improve them, let’s share your knowledge and discuss.

  • We have a lot of not accurate old-style debian/copyright files - How do we update them to “copyright format 1.0” (https://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/copyright-format/1.0/) with fewer efforts?
  • What is the best way to describe debian/copyright - any good tools and its usage?
  • OpenChain project (https://www.openchainproject.org/) from Linux Foundation pushes SPDX format, should we consider to adapt/collaborate with its works?
  • Yocto Project (https://www.yoctoproject.org/) uses “hashes” for license files to track license changes - a good idea for Debian, too?
